South Kingstown Man Arrested for Assault on Fishing Docks

Oscar D. Diaz, 44, of 185 Middlebridge Road, South Kingstown, was arrested at 9:35 a.m. on April 26 on a charge of simple assault.

According to police, on April 25 at about 12:26 p.m. they received a report of two men – Diaz and a 50-year-old South Kingstown man – fighting near the docks on State Street in Galilee. When police responded, they said the area was clear.

Police said at about 1:45 p.m., they interviewed the 50-year-old man. He said that Diaz had assaulted him when they got off a fishing boat, and told him to “get out of Point Judith before he killed me.”

The man said that the dispute was over a lawsuit he has against Diaz, for injuries he suffered while on his fishing boat. This is not the boat that the two were on April 25. Three other witnesses also identified Diaz as the instigator in the assault.

Police interviewed Diaz on April 26, and he told them that he had lost control of himself the previous day. He turned himself in on a charge of simple assault.
