Narragansett Police Log: April 27 and 28, 2012
An East Providence man is charged with DWI, and a student is cited following his own traffic accident.

East Providence Man Charged With DWI
Charles D. Gordon, 22, of 60 Village Drive, East Providence, was arrested at about 1:12 a.m. on April 28 and charged with driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

According to police, an officer patrolling traffic on Boston Neck Road near the Dunes Club clocked a Jeep Wrangler driven by Gordon at 58 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. Police said the Jeep also veered into breakdown lane three times while the officer caught up with it, making a traffic stop near Anawan Drive.
Police said Gordon smelled of alcohol while responding to police questions about why he was driving so fast. Gordon told police he was coming from the Coast Guard House with three friends – passengers in the car from Narragansett – and going to another friend’s house in Bonnet Shores.

According to police, Gordon failed field sobriety tests, and refused to submit to a chemical test after he was arrested and transported to police headquarters. Police transported the passengers in the car to their homes, and Gordon’s car was towed from the scene.
URI Student’s Car Hit, But He’s Cited for Suspended License
Stephen M. Cooper, 20, of 13 Sewell Road, Narragansett, was cited at about 1:12 a.m. on April 27 and charged with driving with a suspended license. Police said Cooper is a student at the University of Rhode Island.
According to police, they responded to a car accident report on Sewell Road. Police said that Cooper told them he was driving on the road when someone drove through a stop signal and hit the front of his car.
However, a background check of Cooper revealed that his license was suspended. He was cited for the violation. Information about the other driver was not available.
Police Break-Up Two Loud Parties
- At about 12:20 a.m. on April 28, police received a report of a loud party at 18 Greene Lane.
According to police, about 75 to 100 people were at the party, with about eight to 10 cars illegally parked. Police said there was a report of a fight between two people, but the people could not be identified.
Police noted that the home already had a nuisance sticker on it. The party was cleared after about five to 10 minutes. The tenants were identified as Toby L. Berkowitz, 19, Kyle W. Nolan, 20, and Corey A. Coogan, 21.
- At about 1:13 a.m. on April 28, police received a report of a loud party at 51 Middle Road.
According to police, about 90 to 110 people were at the party, with 20 cars illegally parked. Police noted that the cars would have blocked fire trucks if they were called to the scene.
Police said the renters cleared the party without incident. They were identified as 21-year-olds Chelsea L. Macfarlane, Brooke H. Simandl, Danielle N. Cecchini and Julie H. Wilcox.
