Narragansett Police Log: May 16 and 17, 2012

A South Kingstown man is charged with drunken driving, and a URI student allegedly makes a fake 911 call.

Mews Tavern Employee Charged With DWI

Nicholas P. Lager, 29, of 21 Smith St., South Kingstown, was arrested at about 11:51 p.m. on May 17 and charged with drunken driving.

According to police, an officer patrolling traffic near the entrance to the Salt Pond Plaza on Point Judith Road clocked a silver Saturn Ion at 52 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made on Route 108 past the Dillon Rotary, just before the town line. Police noted that the car was also swerving.

Police said that during the traffic stop, Lager appeared to be slurring his words, had bloodshot and watery eyes, and appeared to be nervous. He allegedly told police that he had one beer at the Bon Vue Inn earlier that night.

According to police, Lager consented to field sobriety tests, which he failed. Police said that during the chemical test at police headquarters, Lager told them, “I’m drunk, I’ll do it, I’ll take the test.”

Police said Lager’s breath tests at 0.149 and 0.148, above the legal limit. Lager was arrested and charged with drunken driving. According to police reports, he is a chef at the Mews Tavern, but wasn’t working the night of the arrest.

URI Student Charged With Providing False 911 Information

Peter Forbes Cullen, 22, of 4 Homestead Ave., Narragansett, was arrested at about 2:55 a.m. on May 17 and charged with providing false info to 911 and obstruction. Police said Cullen is a student at the University of Rhode Island.

According to police, they received a 911 hang-up from Homestead Avenue. While on their way to the scene, a police dispatcher told officers that a “Timmy Smith” had called 911 and said there was no problem.

Police said at the scene, they interviewed Cullen, who was attempting to leave. After questioning from police, Cullen allegedly said that he was Timmy Smith. However, he refused to tell police who had called 911, allegedly telling them, “It was just a stupid joke, it’s senior week.”

According to police, they investigated and interview Cullen’s girlfriend. She told police that she and Cullen had gotten into a verbal argument, and had threatened to call police if she didn’t leave his home. The girlfriend told police that Cullen was upset about being kicked out of a bar earlier that night.

Cullen was arrested and charged with providing false information to 911, and also charged with obstruction for allegedly lying to police.

Narragansett Man Arrested for Warrant

Kyle J. Rodriguez, 28, of 40 Durkin Drive, Apt. #3, Narragansett, was arrested at about 4:24 p.m. on May 17. Police said a Fourth Division District Court warrant was out for Rodriguez’s arrest related to a Narragansett police charge of driving with a suspended license.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Point Judith Road saw Rodriguez in a back seat of a blue Volvo, and knew a warrant was out for his arrest. A traffic stop was made at Mariner Square.

Police confirmed Rodriguez’s identity and arrested him without incident. The driver was allowed to leave the scene.
