  • Kerynn E. Adams, 19, Kerynn E. Adams, Carolina, was charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction.
  • Brandon D. Phipps, 20, of 11 Lewiston Ave., West Kingston, was charged with disorderly conduct.
  • Lauren K. McGovern, 20, of 9 Meadowsweet Trail, Narragansett, was charged with obstruction.

According to police, when they arrived at the home, they noted a group in a downstairs room, visible through an open window. Police asked the group to open the front door.

Police said that while talking to the group, someone from inside the house yelled, “He has a knife!” At that point police entered the house.

According to police, other people at the house identified a member of the group as having the knife. Police said when they went to the room with the four people – McGovern, Phipps, Adams and another man who was not arrested – only three people were there.

Police said that while trying to interview the three remaining people – Phipps, McGovern and Adams – they were aggressive, swearing at other people at the home. Police noted that all three appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

According to police, the knife was found on the floor, and identified as an automatic opening knife with a 3.5” blade.

While police attempted to interview people, they said that McGovern tried to prevent them from doing so in her room. She allegedly told police, “This is my ****ing room! I can be here if I ****ing want to!”

Police said that after repeated requests to remain quiet, McGovern still refused to comply, and she was arrested and charged with obstruction. Police noted that McGovern refused to walk, and had to be forcibly moved to a squad car.

According to police, after arresting McGovern, they again attempted to interview a witness. At that point, they said Adams charged another resident of the home and tried to pull out a chunk of her hair.

Adams was arrested at that point and charged with disorderly conduct. The victim later declined to press charges for assault.

Police noted that Adams was later charged with obstruction because during her interviewing and arrest, she identified herself by the name of another roommate. A person at the home gave police her actual name, and a charge of obstruction was added.

According to police, while interview Phipps, he was uncooperative. Police noted that he was shirtless, and had red marks on his chest. He allegedly told police, “I just got jumped and you guys ain’t doing **** about it.”

Police said they escorted him to a squad car to calm down, but did not arrest him at that time. However, he was arrested shortly after, based on interviews with several other people at the home.

According to the interviews with witnesses, Phipps and his brother – the fourth man in the basement when police initially arrived – had gotten aggressive toward other partygoers and gotten into a fight. The people told police that the fight broke up when a knife was pulled by Phipps’ brother.

Police were unable to contact Phipps’ brother the night of the incident. According to police reports, he is a suspect for charges of obstruction, disorderly conduct and possession of a prohibited weapon other than a firearm.

Narragansett Woman Charged With Violating NCO, Making Obscene Calls

Marcia C. Coes, 52, of 41 Maywood Road, Narragansett, was arrested at about 3 p.m. on May 18 and charged with violating a no-contact order and making obscene phone calls.

According to police, the previous night they had received a complaint about Coes contacting a Narragansett man that has a restraining order out against her. Police determined the man’s claim was valid, and issued a warrant for her arrest, because she could not be found at the time.

Police said that the next afternoon, they received a complaint that Coes was swearing at children getting off a school bus.

Police noted that when they arrived, a wooden door was laying on the front steps, blocking access to the door. Police said they could hear Coes swearing loudly from inside the house, and moved the wooden door to get access to the front door.

According to police, Coes refused to come out of her home until they threatened to break the door down. At that point, police said she surrendered to police without incident.

Police said because of mental health issues, Coes was transferred to South County Hospital for a possible evaluation.

However, police said they were told that a local mental health facility would not do an evaluation while Coes was in police custody. As a result, she was arraigned and released to the custody of a family member.

Two Arrested Following Traffic Stop on Route 1 Ramp

Police made two arrests at about 6:42 p.m. on May 18, following a traffic stop on the Route 1 onramp near Mobil.

  • Jairo Sanchez, 31, of 318 Manton Apt., Providence, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license.
  • Cesar Valdez, 25, of 199 South Main Street, Apt. #1R, Attleboro, MA, was arrested because police said a Sixth Division District Court warrant was out for his arrest for failing to appear at a hearing for driving without a valid license.

According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Point Judith Road saw a car traveling without a front license plate. A stop was made at the Route 1 onramp.

Police said a background check revealed that the driver – Sanchez – did not have a license. A background check of Valdez, a passenger in the car, revealed a warrant out for his arrest since April 2008.

Both were arrested without incident.
