Narragansett Police Log: May 2 and 3, 2012
An argument between a couple over pregnancy leads to an arrest, as does an alleged DWI with a traffic accident.

Narragansett Man Charged With DWI
Patrick B. Toupin, 22, of 19 Leeann Drive, Narragansett, was arrested at about 1:42 a.m. on May 2 and charged with driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

According to police, they received a report of a car hitting a telephone pole on Bristol Road.
Police noted that when they arrived on scene, the driver – Toupin – was trying to jack the car up to fix a flat tire. Police said the car had extensive frontend damage and both airbags were deployed.

According to police, Toupin smelled of alcohol. Police said he failed field sobriety tests, and at police headquarters, he refused to submit to a chemical test.
Argument Behind Police Station Leads to Warrant Arrest
Kyle J. Rodriguez, 28, of 40 Durkin Drive, Apt. #3, Narragansett, was arrested at about 4:48 p.m. on May 3. Police said there was a South Kingstown police warrant out for his arrest for fraudulent use of a credit card.
According to police, a patrolman was coming back to police headquarters when he could hear an argument coming from behind the building.
Police said the officer investigated and found a man – later identified as Rodriguez – arguing with a woman. The woman told police that she was pregnant with Rodriguez’s child, and they were arguing about Rodriguez being unemployed.
A background check revealed that a warrant was out for Rodriguez’s arrest. He was taken into custody without incident and picked up later that night by South Kingstown police.
URI Student Cited for Expired License, Insurance, Registration
Dustin D. Chece, 23, of 38 Holiday Drive, Lincoln, was cited at about 12:27 a.m. on May 2 and charged with driving with an expired license.
According to police, an officer stopped at a traffic light on Point Judith Road saw that the maroon Jeep Wrangler in front of him had expired registration stickers. A traffic stop was made near Jamestown Boulevard.
Police said the driver – Chece – also had an expired license and an expired insurance card. A background check revealed his license expired on March 9, and his car registration expired Feb. 1. As a result, Chece’s Jeep was towed from the scene.
Police cited Chece for the expired license, which is a District Court offense, and also for the expired registration and insurance info, which are Traffic Court offenses.
