Narragansett Police Log: May 29 and 30, 2012
Moral lessons from police reports – Don't swear at officers during an unrelated traffic stop.

Don’t Yell Obscenities At Police
David Cantanzaro, 18, of 115 Love Lane, Warwick, was cited at about 1:37 a.m. on May 30 and charged with possession of alcohol by a minor. Police said Cantanzaro is a student at George Washington University.

According to police, at about 1:30 a.m. an officer was conducting a motor vehicle stop on Point Judith Road near John Street. According to the officer, a red SUV passed by and a passenger yelled, “**** you!” at the officer.
The officer radioed a description of the SUV to another officer in the area, who pulled it over about seven minutes later on Point Judith Road near Clarke Road. Police noted that the SUV was overloaded, with a man in the back cargo area without a seatbelt.

When police asked the driver if he had just passed a car, he told the officer he had. When police asked the driver who had screamed at the officer, police said the six people in the car immediately got quiet, before a passenger said, “We had all of the windows up.”
Upon further questioning, a 19-year-old North Kingstown man told police that he had sworn at them. He was not arrested, however, while processing the scene, police noted a beer can on the passenger side floorboard.
Police noted that none of the people in the SUV were 21, and got permission to search the SUV. A backpack, which Cantanzaro said was his, contained a bottle of JH Signature Vodka and four cans of Natural Ice.
Cantanzaro was cited for the alcohol. The driver of the car was issued tickets for overloading a vehicle and for seat belt violations.
Johnson and Wales Student Arrested for Suspended License
Randall A. Roderick, 27, of 187 Leonard Ave., East Providence, was arrested at about 2:05 a.m. on May 30 and charged with driving with a suspended license. Police said Roderick is a student at Johnson and Wales.
According to police, an officer patrolling traffic near the North Beach Pavilion clocked a silver Ford Taurus at 35 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made near Whale Rock Road.
Police said the driver – Roderick – immediately told them that he did not have an active driver’s license. Police confirmed this with dispatch, and arrested Roderick without incident. A passenger drove the car from the scene.
CCRI Student Cited for Transportation of Alcohol by a Minor
Nathaly Osorio, 19, of 107 Margaret St., First Floor, Pawtucket, was cited at about 12:24 a.m. on May 29 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said Osorio is a student at the Community College of Rhode Island.
According to police, an officer patrolling traffic on Point Judith Road saw a car driven by Osorio with a defective rear plate light. A traffic stop was made on Burnside Avenue near Defelice Road.
Police said that during the traffic stop, a bottle of Bacardi 151 rum could be seen on the car’s floorboard. A background check confirmed Osorio was only 19, and she was cited for transportation of alcohol by a minor.
