Narragansett Police Log: May 9, 10 and 11, 2012
A good Samaritan returns cash to police, and a college student is arrested for domestic offenses.

Johnson and Wales Student Charged with Domestic Offenses
Haleigh E. Flynn, 21, of 7 Connie Drive, Foxborough, MA, was arrested at about 3:01 a.m. on May 10 and charged with domestic disorderly conduct and domestic assault. Police said Flynn is a student at Johnson and Wales.

According to police, they received a call from Flynn, who told police that her boyfriend would not let her leave the home on Saltaire Avenue that they were staying at.
Police said when they arrived, Flynn was in the passenger seat and crying. Flynn told police that she was upset because her boyfriend wouldn’t drive her home, and because he also wouldn’t let her walk home.

Police noted that it was pouring rain when they were talking to Flynn, and that she was heavily intoxicated.
According to police, when interviewing her boyfriend, they noted that he had fresh scratch marks on his neck, chest and back. He told police that he and Flynn had been drinking, and he couldn’t bring her home for that reason.
Based on the evidence at the scene, police arrested Flynn. She was arraigned and released at 4:25 a.m. A no-contact order was issued between Flynn and her boyfriend.
Coventry Man Charged With Possession of Marijuana
Michael G. LePage, 22, of 13 Raven Boulevard, Coventry, was arrested at about 12:18 a.m. on May 11 and charged with possession of marijuana.
According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Lakeside Drive near Bridgetown Road clocked a gray Mazda 3 at about 44 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made on Boston Neck Road near CVS.
Police said that during the stop, marijuana could be smelled coming from inside the vehicle. When the driver – LePage – was asked if he had any marijuana, he allegedly told police, “No, I don’t think so.”
When police told LePage that the smell from the car was extremely strong, he then allegedly said, “Yeah, there is a little bit in that bag,” pointing to a black drawstring bag on the passenger side floorboard.
Police said a search of the car revealed a small plastic bottle with a small amount of marijuana, along with two mason jars with trace amounts. LePage was arrested and charged with possession. He was arraigned and released at about 2:11 a.m.
URI Student Cited for Transportation of Alcohol by a Minor
Matthew W. McCarthy, 20, of 31 Trotwood Drive, West Hartford, CT, was cited at about 9:31 p.m. on May 11 and charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said McCarthy is a student at the University of Rhode Island.
According to police, officers monitoring traffic at the intersection of Point Judith Road and Galilee Escape Road saw a white Honda Accord driven by McCarthy run through a red light. A traffic stop was made on White Swan Drive near Southwest Road.
Police said that during the stop, a case of Natural Light beer could be see by the feet of a 21-year-old passenger. It was confiscated and disposed of.
McCarthy was cited for the alcohol and warned for the traffic violation. He was allowed to drive from the scene.
Good Samaritan of the Week – Linda Curry
At about 5:55 p.m. on May 10, police received a report of money found at the intersection of Boon Street and Rodman Street.
Police said that a South Kingstown woman – Linda S. Curry of Spring Street – had found $66 at the intersection. She turned the money into police headquarters. According to police, there was no wallet found in the area.
