Narragansett-South Kingstown Election Guide
The candidates, incumbents and issues that will be affecting Narragansett and South Kingstown.
As we look ahead to November’s elections, the Narragansett and South Kingstown Patch is devoted to bringing you the information you need about every race in town. Here's our start on the candidates and issues we'll be covering as November draws near. Bookmark this page for updates.
- What affect, if any, will the town manager saga have on elections in Narragansett? At the meeting that the Narragansett Town Council , residents were outspoken about voting councilors out.
- Will re-districting affect Donna Walsh or Spencer Dickinson? Kathleen Fogarty is running for Dickinson's seat, and Walsh is being challenged by Tina Jackson, according to The South County Independent.
- Is any Rhode Island federal incumbent vulnerable at all? Sheldon Whitehouse is up for reelection this year, but according to February polls by WPRI, he seems pretty safe in an election against Hinckley. Jim Langevin had even better numbers, but he's being challenged by , an Independent candidate from Matunuck, and others. David Cicilline is likely to face strong challenges in the primaries and the general election. Jack Reed isn't up for reelection until 2014.
- Can state officials retain their positions after surprising results in 2010? Teresa Tanzi upset David Caprio in 2010, and Lincoln Chafee won a three-way election for governor. Chafee isn't up for reelection until 2014 – which he's probably grateful for – but Tanzi, and the rest of the House and Senate delegation, is.
- Oh hey, we have to elect a president... Obama vs. Romney! There is probably almost no chance Obama loses Rhode Island – The state last went for a Republican presidential nominee in 1984, for some guy named Ronald Reagan. But nationally, if the unemployment rate is still high, Obama might be vulnerable.
Throughout this election season, we will be adding stories to this, and also re-publishing it and re-featuring it. That's kind of how we roll. Got any questions, comments or concerns? Leave them on this story, or send them to stephen.greenwell@patch.com.
