Penguin Plunge & Polar Swim On For Jan 21
The North Kingstown and Galilee events were postponed from New Year's Day, due to extreme cold. But they have been rescheduled for Sunday.

NARRAGANSETT, RI—On New Year's Day, extreme cold temperatures forced organizers to postpone the traditional charity jumps into the ocean, including the Penguin Plunge at Roger Wheeler State Beach and the Polar Swim at North Kingstown Town Beach. But now, it's safe to go back in the water again. The make-up day for both events is set for Sunday, Jan. 21.
Here is the information.
The 42nd Annual Penguin Plunge for Special Olympics Rhode Island happens at noon at Roger Wheeler and the Polar Swim is set for 12:30 p.m. in North Kingstown at the town beach.

'The Penguin Plunge for Special Olympics is one of the original New Year's Day Plunges in Rhode Island and has been a tradition for generation after generation of plungers," Special Olympics Rhode Island said. This was the first time it was ever postponed. The fundraising helps more than 3,500 athletes.
The polar swim helps the Y's Financial Assistance Campaign and the North Kingstown Food Pantry. They're collecting peanut butter and jelly jars with the $20 registration. Swimmers who raise $50 in donations do not pay the registration. The event is at 10 Beach St.
