Rhode Island Chef Named A James Beard Awards Nominee
Chef Sherry Pocknett, from the Sly Fox Den Too, in Charlestown, was recently named a nominee for the "Best Chef in the Northeast."

CHARLESTOWN, RI — The culinary scene in Rhode Island will get some love in the 2023 Restaurant and Chef Awards nominees announced Wednesday by the James Beard Foundation.
Chef Sherry Pocknett, from the Sly Fox Den Too, in Charlestown, was recently named a nominee for the "Best Chef in the Northeast." Pocknett will compete against the following New England chefs for the award:
- Valentine Howell, Krasi, Boston
- Christian Hunter, Community Table, New Preston, Connecticut
- Yisha Siu, Yunnan Kitchen, Boston
- Renee Touponce, The Port of Call, Mystic, Connecticut.

The James Beard Awards, first presented in 1991, recognize exceptional talent in the culinary and food media industries and are often regarded as the “Oscars of culinary arts.” They recognize a range of experiences, from fine-dining restaurants to casual gems, in 23 categories.
Winners will be announced June 5 in a ceremony at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
