RI Weather: 'Increased Confidence' In Significant Storm This Week

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service shows a 70 to 90 percent chance of at least three inches of snow in Rhode Island.

RHODE ISLAND — It's looking more and more likely that another round of winter weather is headed to southern New England to end the week.

"Confidence is increasing that a significant winter storm will create significant impacts Friday through the weekend from the Mid-Atlantic through the Northeast," the National Weather Service said.

While it's still too early for a detailed forecast, New Englanders can expect to see at least some measurable snow. According to the latest model, there's a 70 to 90 percent chance that Rhode Island will see at least three inches of accumulation. Hazardous travel conditions are likely during the worst of the storm.

High seas are expected to affect coastal areas, as well, with the possibility of some flooding and beach erosion, along with high wind gusts.
