Interstate Highway Restrictions

Highway Closure

Pawtucket: I-95 NB, from Exit 27 (Downtown) to the Vernon St. on-ramp, closed for construction, Tuesday and Wednesday from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. Detour in place.

Exit and Lane Closures

West Greenwich to West Warwick: I-95 SB, from Exit 6A (Hopkins Hill Rd.) to Exit 8A (Rte. 2), various exit, lane and shoulder closures, Sunday through Tuesday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please see detour information at: http://www.dot.ri.gov/travelri/detourmaps.asp:

* Sunday: Exit 8 on-ramp (from Rte. 2 South) and Exit 7 off-ramp will be closed.

* Monday: Exit 7 on-ramp and Exit 6A off-ramp will be closed.

* Tuesday: Exit 6A on-ramp, and left lane/shoulder will be closed.

* Wednesday: right lane will be closed.

* Thursday: right shoulder will be closed.

Weekend

Cranston: I-95 SB, from Park Ave. to Milford St., right shoulder closed in moving operation for landscaping, Saturday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Overnight

Pawtucket: I-95 NB & SB, from Exit 27 (Downtown) to Exit 28 (School St.), alternating lane closures for bridge construction, Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The left or right lane will be closed at 9 p.m. and the middle lane will be closed at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Pawtucket: I-95 SB, from the Walcott St. Overpass to the George St. off-ramp, right lane and shoulder on the highway and Main St. on-ramp closed for bridge inspection, Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Weekday

Richmond: I-95 NB Weigh Station, just north of Exit 4, closed Monday for maintenance.

Continuing

Cumberland/Lincoln: I-295 NB & SB, from Exit 9 (Rte. 146) to Exit 10 (Rte. 122), one lane of travel is closed for construction through Fall 2012. On I-295 NB, all trucks must use the left lane.

East Providence: The East Shore Expressway Bridge over Warren Avenue (Exit 7 off of I-195 EB) is posted for use by vehicles under 17 tons. Detours required for heavier vehicles.

Pawtucket: I-95 SB at the Pawtucket River Bridge posted for use by vehicles of less than 18 tons. Detours required for heavier vehicles.

Warwick/West Warwick: I-95 NB & SB at Exit 8 (Rte. 2), lanes shifted to the left. Use caution entering and exiting.

Traffic Pattern Changes

Tiverton: Rte. 24 NB and SB at the Sakonnet River Bridge, a new traffic pattern is being implemented to align the highway with the new bridge:

* Rte. 24 SB: both lanes shifted to the right and the right shoulder is closed

* Rte. 24 NB: a split-lane configuration near Exit 5 (Rte. 138, Main Rd.) is expected to be in place by Tuesday

Weekend

East Greenwich: Rte. 403 WB, from Rte. 4 SB to Frenchtown Rd., left shoulder closed and ramp narrowed in a moving operation for landscaping, Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Providence: Rtes. 6 & 10 NB, from Westminster and Dean St. to Dean St. and Atwells Ave., right lane and shoulder closures in a moving operation for landscaping, Saturday from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tiverton: Rte. 24 NB & SB, at Exit 6 (Fish Rd.) up to the Sakonnet River Bridge, right lane closed for construction, Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Overnight

Lincoln: Rte. 146 NB & SB, from the on-ramp to I-295 NB and Reservoir Ave., alternating lane closures for construction, Sunday through Thursday from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Tiverton: Rte. 24 NB & SB, at Exit 6 (Fish Rd.) up to the Sakonnet River Bridge, right lane closed for construction, Sunday and Monday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Weekday

Providence: Rtes. 6 & 10 SB, at the Broadway Ramp Overpass, right lane and shoulder closed for construction, Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Continuing

Newport/Jamestown: Rte. 138 EB & WB on the Pell (Newport) Bridge, lane closures are possible for painting and steel repairs by the R.I. Turnpike & Bridge Authority, Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. At least one lane in each direction will remain open.

Portsmouth/Tiverton: Sakonnet River Bridge (Rte. 24) posted for use by vehicles under 18 tons. Heavier vehicles must use alternate routes.

Portsmouth: Hummocks Ave. NB, at the on-ramp to Rte. 24 NB, traffic must come to a complete stop before merging with traffic.

Portsmouth: The speed limit on Rte. 24 NB, from Exit 2 (Boyds Lane) to the Sakonnet River Bridge, has been reduced to 40 mph. Restriction in place through mid-2013.

Tiverton: Ramp at Exit 5 from Rte. 24 NB has been narrowed for work on the new Sakonnet River Bridge. Use caution, as construction vehicles are crossing Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Providence: Rtes. 6 & 10 NB, from Westminster and Dean St. to Dean St. and Atwells Ave., right lane and shoulder closures in a moving operation for landscaping, Saturday from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pawtucket: George St. SB, from Cedar St. to Grace St., traffic pattern change from southbound to northbound, Friday at 3:30 p.m. Detour in place.

Providence: Rtes. 6 & 10 SB, at the Broadway Ramp Overpass, right lane and shoulder closed for construction, Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Providence: Harris Ave., under the Broadway Ramp Overpass and under Railroad Bridge, right shoulder closed for construction, Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Continuing

Pawtucket: Pleasant St. and Taft St., from Division St. to Jenks Way at the I-95 overpass, are closed through Fall 2013 for Pawtucket River Bridge construction. Follow signed detours.

Pawtucket: The Garden St. Bridge and the George St. Bridge NB, at the I-95 overpass, are closed through Spring 2012 for construction. Follow signed detours.

Providence: A portion of Frost St., from Cemetery Rd. to Concord St., is closed for sewer work through mid-Spring 2012. Follow signed detour.

Providence: Park St. NB, from Smith St. to Orms St., is closed to through traffic until 2013. Follow signed detour.

Providence: Rte. 7 (Orms St.) EB & WB, from Park St. to Douglas Ave., two lanes closed for construction through Spring 2013. At least one lane will remain open in each direction during the day. An alternating one-way traffic pattern is possible during overnight hours.

East Bay

Weekday

Bristol: Hope St. (Rte. 114) NB, from John St. to Bradford St., right lane and shoulder closures for construction, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Warren: Child St. (Rte. 103), from Metacom Ave. (Rte. 136) to Main St. (Rte. 114), one lane of alternating traffic for construction, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Continuing

Bristol/Portsmouth: Rte. 114 on the Mount Hope Bridge, single-lane alternating traffic pattern for bridge work by the R.I. Turnpike & Bridge Authority, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. At least one lane in each direction will remain open.

Bristol: Because of road construction for the Hope St. (Rte. 114) Improvement Project, there is now a one-way traffic pattern on Hope St. NB and Thames St. SB through late summer. For more information, please see: www.ri.gov/DOT/press/view.php?id=16174.

Weekday

Glocester: Sawmill Rd. and Snake Hill Rd., from Annan Wade Rd. and Rte. 44 to Rte. 102 and Snake Hill Rd., right shoulder closed for construction, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Scituate: Danielson Pike at Rte. 116, alternating lane closures for construction, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Continuing

Smithfield: The Stillwater Viaduct Bridge, which carries Rte. 116 (George Washington Highway) over the Stillwater Reservoir, is closed until late 2012 for a rehabilitation project. Westerly: Dunn’s Corner Rd., at the intersection of Rte. 1 (Post Rd.), alternating lane closures for construction, Sunday-Thursday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

South Kingstown/Charlestown: Rte. 1A NB & SB, from Old Shannock Rd. to King Tom Dr., alternating lane closures for construction, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

West Bay

Coventry/West Greenwich/Exeter: Rte. 102 (Victory Highway), from Rte. 118 (Harkney Hill Rd.) in Coventry to Rte. 3 (Nooseneck Hill Rd.) in Exeter, shoulder closures and lane shifts are possible due to construction, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Coventry: Laurel Ave., from Rte. 3 (Washington St.) to Pilgrim Ave., road closed due to flood damage.
