NARRAGANSETT, RI — Small Business Saturday will once again return to Narragansett and South Kingstown in a few weeks. On Saturday, Nov. 27, local consumers are encouraged to shop small and support businesses in the area this holiday season.

Support from local consumers is critical as small businesses in Narragansett and South Kingstown continue to navigate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Celebrated each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday is a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for communities and the American economy.

American Express launched this shopping holiday in 2010, at the height of the Great Recession, as a way of redirecting holiday shopping to local stores, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. A decade later, it’s observed in all 50 states, and in 2011, the Senate passed a resolution recognizing Small Business Saturday.

More than 30 million small businesses are a key part of the U.S. economy employing nearly half the private-sector workforce and creating two-thirds of all net new jobs in America.
