South Kingstown Police Officer, 2 Others Injured In Crash

South Kingstown Police Chief Matthew Moynihan says the officer was responding to an emergency call when his cruiser was struck by a car.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A South Kingstown police officer and two other people were hospitalized after a car hit a police cruiser Thursday afternoon, according to Police Chief Matthew Moynihan.

Moynihan said the crash happened around 12:50 p.m. at the intersection of Routes 1 and 138.

"The officer was responding to an emergency call, driving eastbound on Route 138, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound," Moynihan said. "Three individuals, including the officer, were transported to the hospital for treatment with complaints of pain."

Moynihan said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
