South Kingstown Police Warn Of Scammers Impersonating Officers
The grifters claim residents will be arrested for missing jury duty unless they pay up with gift cards.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — The South Kingstown police have warned of scammers impersonating officers who threaten to arrest residents for missing jury duty unless they pay up with gift cards.
"We have been notified of a phone scam where an individual falsely claims to be a member of the South Kingstown Police Department and demands that the recipient purchase gift cards, threatening that failure to do so will result in an arrest warrant for missed jury duty," the police department posted to its Facebook page.
"No law enforcement agency will ever" demand money over the phone, request payment in prepaid or gift cards, or threaten arrest to collect fines or fees, according to the post.
