SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — The South Kingstown Public Schools food drive was a success district-wide, with students collecting more than 1,400 pounds of food, school officials said last week.
School officials said the food drive was a collective effort, with pre-school students to high school seniors showing enthusiasm and generosity. Together, the students were able to donate that food to the Jonnycake Center for Hope in South Kingstown.
The Jonny Cake Center for Hope's mission is "to provide basic needs, resources, and hope to our community members." The center runs the donation-based Jonnycake Market, which helps households put food on the table when they are struggling to make ends meet. Members are invited to shop at the market twice a month, or more often if necessary, and bring home a week’s worth of food for their family.
