South Kingstown Union Fire District Swears In New Marshal, Assistant Marshal
Dennis Bernier was selected as the new fire marshal, while Keith Maine was named assistant fire marshal for the Union Fire District.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — The Union Fire District of South Kingstown swore in a new fire marshal and assistant fire marshal, Chief Steven Pinch said Monday.
Dennis Bernier was selected as the new fire marshal, while Keith Maine was named assistant fire marshal. Bernier was sworn in during a ceremony on Oct. 23, and the board of wardens also swore in Maine on Nov. 6
Bernier has served as the district's assistant fire marshal since 2021. During his time in the role, he assisted the fire marshal on fire and life safety code enforcement, building plan review, tent permits and mass gathering permits. He also led the fire safety program for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, conducted a variety of inspections, and worked in collaboration with state fire officials on fire and arson investigations.

Maine's previous experience includes serving as the fire marshal/firefighter at the Watch Hill Fire District in Westerly. He also served as a lieutenant for the Wakefield Fire Department and as a battalion chief for the Union Fire District of South Kingstown.
"Both Dennis and Keith are qualified, outstanding individuals who work continuously to keep their communities safe," Pinch said. "I congratulate them both on their new roles and wish them the best of luck as they embark on this next chapter of their careers."
