Toegemann Earns Tennis Award; Team Falls in Finals

Narragansett resident Amy Toegemann is honored with a sportsmanship award, but Stonehill falls in the finals of the Division II Northeast-10 conference tournament.

Easton, MA – Six members of the Stonehill College women’s tennis team have been named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference Team for their performances this season, including Narragansett resident and Stonehill junior Amy Toegemann.

Toegemann, a graduate of the the Lincoln School, leads the list of honorees as the recipient of the F. Paul Bogan Memorial Sportsmanship Award. Toegemann was also named to the All-Conference first team.

Toegemann was selected as the recipient of the Bogan Memorial Sportsmanship Award by the conference’s 14 head coaches. Toegemann is 10-5 at the No. 2 singles position this season, including a 7-3 record in NE-10 competition, and 14-1 overall in doubles play to anchor the No. 3 position throughout the spring.

The team of Toegemann and Haedrich have posted an 12-1 overall record this season at No. 3 doubles with a perfect 9-0 mark in conference play, earning a selection to the All-Conference first team. They are currently 11-1 in the third spot and have picked up a win at No. 2 on their way to building a 12-match winning streak.

Toegemann and Haedrich each earn their second career All-Conference selection: Toegemann was named to the first team at No. 1 doubles and All-Rookie squad in 2009, and Haedrich last season earned first team honors at No. 6 singles, second team honors at No. 3 doubles with Jacquelyn Harrow, and an All-Rookie selection.

Unfortunately though, Stonehill was unsuccessful in its bid for a Northeast-10 conference title.

On Saturday, top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University, ranked 29th in the current Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II national poll, won their second consecutive Northeast-10 Conference women’s tennis title with a 5-2 victory over second-seeded Stonehill.

Toegemann lost 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to Alena Mukdaprakorn. However, she and Haedrich won their match at No. 3 doubles 8-2.

Stonehill (18-3, 12-1 NE-10) awaits the NCAA Division II Tennis Championship selections on Wednesday, as the Skyhawks seek their third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and sixth overall.
