Watch For Scammers Targeting Elderly South Kingstown Residents: Police

In this scam, a fraudster calls a senior claiming a family member needs money and then meets the victim to get cash or gift cards.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — South Kingstown police have urged the public to watch out for phone scammers, especially those targeting elderly residents.

Police said there have been several victims of the "grandparent scam" in Rhode Island this week. In this scam, a fraudster calls a senior claiming a family member needs money and then meets the victim to get cash or gift cards. Police said this is always a scam.

Anyone who receives a scam call should hang up and call South Kingstown police at 401-783-3321.
