Wedding Day Leads to Felony Domestic Arrest, Plea for Groom

Jeffrey Zaremba, 32, pleads no contest to a charge of domestic disorderly conduct that occurred on his wedding day.

WAKEFIELD – A South Kingstown man pleaded no contest to a charge of disorderly conduct, following his marriage earlier in the day.

Jeffrey Zaremba, 32, of 1124C Succotash Road, South Kingstown, pleaded no contest on April 4 to a South Kingstown police charge of domestic disorderly conduct. An additional charge of domestic simple assault, third offense, was dismissed. According to court records, the victim, a 29-year-old woman, refused to testify.

Superior Court Associate Justice William E. Carnes, Jr. ordered Zaremba to serve six months probation and a six-month suspended sentence. Zaremba was also ordered to complete alcohol counseling and batterers intervention, and to pay $215 in assessments.

According to South Kingstown police reports included in court records, Zaremba had gotten married to the victim on Dec. 1 at Narragansett Town Hall. He and the woman were drinking throughout the day as a result.

Police said that the woman told them Zaremba demanded a ride to West Warwick late that night. When she refused, she told police that Zaremba hit her.

According to police, Zaremba called them and said that she wasn’t going to get him in trouble. The woman told police that Zaremba then threw various broken items on the lawn in an attempt to implicate her in the assault. However, based on statements from the woman and a neighbor, Zaremba was arrested.

According to online court records, Zaremba has multiple previous pleas to domestic incidents, which automatically made his assault charge a felony.

  • In January 2009, he pleaded no contest to a South Kingstown police charge of drunken driving. He was ordered to surrender his license for four months, to pay a fine, to serve a year of probation and to complete 40 hours of community service.
  • In October 2007, he pleaded no contest to a Narragansett police charge of domestic simple assault. He was ordered to serve a year of probation and a one-year suspended sentence, and to complete domestic violence counseling.
  • In July 2007, he pleaded no contest to Narragansett police charges of domestic simple assault, domestic vandalism and driving with a suspended license. He was ordered to complete a year of probation and domestic abuse counseling, and to pay fines and court costs.  In a separate arrest, he also pleaded no contest to Narragansett police charges of driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.
  • In August 2004, he pleaded no contest to a North Providence police charge of domestic vandalism. He was ordered to pay restitution, to complete a defensive driving course and to pay restitution.
