Falling on the last Monday of May each year, Memorial Day honors those who lost their lives while serving in the military. It's a federal holiday that many people get off from work, resulting in a three-day weekend.

This year, Memorial Day falls on May 27, and for many, this holiday weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. We've rounded up some things to do Memorial Day Weekend in and around Narragansett-South Kingstown. Narragansett Town Beach Season Opening

When: Saturday, May 25 - 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Sunday, May 26 - 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Monday, May 27 - 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Misquamicut Market Grand Opening

When: Saturday, May 25 - 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Sunday, May 26 - 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Where: 330 Atlantic Ave., Westerly, RI 02891
What: Kick off Memorial Day weekend with the grand opening of the Misquamicut Market! Featuring many unique vendors, the family-friendly market is the perfect spot to discover local crafts, get a delicious bite and celebrate the creative spirit of our community. Attendees should note that most vendors will be present from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

South Kingstown Memorial Day Parade

When: Monday, May 27, 2024 - 10:00 a.m.
Where: 101 High St., South Kingstown, RI 02879
What: Organized by the South Kingstown Parks & Recreation and VFW Post 916, the community is invited to honor veterans at the annual South Kingstown Memorial Day Parade. The parade will kick off at 10:00 a.m., with a tribute ceremony following at 11:00 a.m. at Saugatucket Park to honor those who have sacrificed for our country.

Varnum Armory Museum Open House

When: Monday, May 27 - 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Where: Varnum Armory Museum, 6 Main St., East Greenwich, RI 02818
What: This Memorial Day, explore the rich military history of Rhode Island at the Varnum Armory Museum. Admission is free, with donations appreciated, and no reservation is necessary. We're Bach! Memorial Concert

When: Monday, May 27, 2024 - 3:00 p.m.
Where: First Baptist Church, 30 Peirce Street, East Greenwich, RI 02818
What: Gather the family this Memorial Day for "We’re Bach!", a classical music celebration at the First Baptist Church.
