2 MA Men Accused Of Distributing Crack Cocaine In Newport
Police say one of the men, Kolby McCoy, 25, tried to evade arrest, but he struck two parked cars and got his vehicle stuck on a wood pile.
NEWPORT, RI — A Massachusetts man was arrested Thursday after Newport police said he was caught with crack cocaine after he crashed while trying to evade officers.
Kolby McCoy, 25, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, was charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule I/II drugs, controlled substance conspiracy, reckless driving, and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty.
Police said detectives learned McCoy was traveling to the 7-Eleven on Memorial Boulevard to distribute crack cocaine on Thursday. Detectives got a search warrant for his vehicle and set up surveillance in the parking lot.

Around 12:45 p.m., McCoy pulled into the parking lot, and two marked Newport police cruisers pulled in behind McCoy's car. As officers approached his vehicle, McCoy tried to drive away, crashed into two parked vehicles in the lot, and then got his car stuck on a wood pile, police said. Police said McCoy tried to run away, but he was caught and taken into custody.
According to police, one of the park cars had people in it, but no one was injured.

Police said Jacques Jeanty, 21, of New Bedford, was also in McCoy's car. He was also taken into custody. Jeanty was charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute schedule I/II drugs and controlled substance conspiracy.
Both men are scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
