400 Sq. Ft. Trash Pile Found in Newport Harbor
An underwater robot located the underwater pile of trash, according to WPRI Channel 12.

A pile of trash measuring some 400 sq. ft. was recently discovered in Newport Harbor, WPRI Channel 12 reported.
The television station quoted Newport Harbor Hotel Dockmaster Mark Holden as saying the trash is apparently years' worth of accumulated debris that has collected in the harbor.
On May 23, the Rozalia Project posted a YouTube video showing the scene captured by the VideoRay underwater robot.

Described on the YouTube page as an "unbelievable and seemingly endless pile of cups, bottles, wrappers and more," the trash is clearly visible in the video.
Students from the Paul Cuffee School helped "discover this crazy scene," the video description notes.

A cleanup effort is underway, Channel 12 reported.
