Door To Door Salesman Runs Afoul Of The Law: Newport Police

A Canton, Mass., man hawking Worldwide Readers magazine wouldn't take no for an answer, and Dresser Street residents called police.

NEWPORT, RI—When a Canton, Mass., man turned up in Newport to hawk Worldwide Readers magazine, he wouldn't take no for an answer. Dresser Street residents called police. On June 12 around 7:17 p.m., police stopped Anthony D. Grove, 37, from knocking on any more doors. He was soliciting without the required registration, police said.

According to the police narrative, Grove was asking people to make "donations." The Newport residents described him to officers as an aggressive door-to-door salesman. Police contacted his supervisor and explained the City has regulations about solicitations, and Grove and Worldwide Readers weren't in compliance.
