Dorset Cheese From RI Whole Foods Recalled For Possible Listeria

A type of cheese sold at Whole Foods stores in Rhode Island and throughout the Northeast and North Atlantic is being recalled due to a potential listeria contamination.

In a press release, Whole Foods said the affected product — Dorset cheese — was sold at stores in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey and New York. The farm that makes the cheese, Consider Bardwell Farm in Vermont, said there were three types of cheese products being recalled, including the Dorset cheese sold at Whole Foods.

Separately, the farm said the cheese in question was also distributed to California, Texas and Vermont, but no recalls have been announced in those states.

The recalled Dorset cheese has a PLU code of 97776 and a sell by date of Oct. 30, 2019.

Whole Foods said no illnesses have been reported to date. Listeria can cause serious and even fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with a weak immune system, according to the FDA.
