Extended Hours and Specials at Newport Skating Center
The Newport Skating Center will offer extended hours, special shows and skate camp to help celebrate winter vacation and Newport Winterfest.

Extended hours and a host of activities are happening at the Newport Skating Center over the next week to celebrate public school vacation and the 25th Annual Newport Winter Festival running through next Sunday, February 24. In addition to receiving $2 off skating admission with a Newport Winter Festival button, the Island Skating Academy will present a show at the rink as part of the Festival’s activities and manage the popular skate camp. The rink will also host Live DJ Skate Nights on both Fridays of the Newport Winter Festival along with other nightly specials.
To help all the families in Newport celebrate public school vacation week, the Newport Skating Center will feature an extended schedule from Saturday, February 16th through Saturday, February 23rd. Skating hours will run Monday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. with an Adult Skate session from 9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.; and Sunday from noon – 9:00 p.m. For more details on the schedule, please visit skatenewport.com.
Megan Lamarre and the Island Skating Academy will put on a free nightfall display of spins and tricks, entitled “Quick Silver on Ice”, during Newport Winter Festival on Thursday evening, February 21st at 5:30 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a hot cocoa while viewing the performance and then show a Newport Winter Festival button to receive $2 off skating admission. The Newport YMCA will also be visiting the Newport Skating Center this coming Wednesday, February 20th to get kids excited about its summer camp.

Even though winter is winding down there is still time left to work on being a better skater while having fun in the process! The February Skate Camp at the Newport Skating Center, also managed by Meghan Lamarre and the Island Skating Academy, is being offered during public school vacation from Monday, February 18th - Friday, February 22nd from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. The Academy handles all aspects of the camp, including registration forms, registration payment and programming. Also, take your best dance moves out on the ice for Live DJ Skate Nights during the two Fridays of Newport Winter Festival, February 15th and February 22nd from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. DJ Sam LoPiccolo of Beyond Beats will spin classic tunes and take live personal requests as skaters spin around the rink. Only 15 years old, LoPiccolo has already been signed to two record labels for his original recordings which can be heard by visiting soundcloud.com/byndbts.

The Newport Skating Center encourages everyone to get into the Newport Winter Festival spirit by taking advantage of the rink’s Nightly Specials: Free Skate Nights on Mondays courtesy of People’s Credit Union and on Wednesdays courtesy of Cox Communications (not offered during the holiday schedule); Stop & Shop Night on Tuesdays sponsored by Stop & Shop when skaters receive 2-for-1 admission with a Stop & Shop card; and Amica Family Fun Night on Thursdays with discounted admission and free hot cocoa.
Throughout the month of February, The Newport Skating Center is once again proud to serve as an official drop-off location for the “Ton of Love” Food Drive. Sponsored by the Newport County Chamber of Commerce and the Newport County Chamber Community Fund, this citywide effort benefits Newport’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. Food items needed include non-perishables like canned soups, peanut butter and jelly, mac & cheese, pasta and rice. Anyone who donates will receive a free hot cocoa!
The Newport Skating Center features a 9,000 square foot skating surface large enough to accommodate up to 150 skaters at a time. Skate rentals, hot beverages, comfort foods, night skating, admission discounts, gift cards, a warming room, FREE parking and viewing spaces for the public are all available at the rink.
The skating center’s Winter Session Schedule, which includes all days EXCEPT school vacations and holidays, is Monday – Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.; Friday from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with an Adult Skate session from 9:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.; Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.; and Sunday from noon – 5:00 p.m. For more details on either of these Winter Session schedules, please visit skatenewport.com.
Flexible three-hour skate admission passes are just $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children between 3-11 years of age. Children under 3 are free with an adult. Passes for Adult Skate hours on Fridays are $5 each. Season passes, Frequent Skater Savings Cards and group rates are also available. For those interested in hosting a party on the ice, the skating center also offers group discounts and private rentals.
