Middletown House Break Leads Police To Festival Field: Newport

The Newport police arrested one man in connection with a Middletown robbery.

NEWPORT, RI — A Facebook Live broadcast from the Festival Field parking lot led police to a Newport man allegedly involved in a house break in Middletown. Jerrell Jaquese Perry, 21, of Newport, was sitting in a rented white Honda CRV on June 12 around 1:30 p.m. with three friends. On Facebook Live he and another man allegedly appeared smoking marijuana and talking about guns.

"I stay with the heat," one said over Facebook Live.

Police, who had been alerted on June 11 to a house break on Massachusetts Avenue, Middletown, where a firearm was stolen, rushed to Festival Field, found a car reeking of weed, and ordered the four people out. Officers seized three bags of marijuana, amounting to 2.5 ounces. They also found a pair of ski goggles reportedly stolen in the house break. Perry was charged with two misdemeanors: receiving stolen goods and marijuana possession (1 oz or greater). The others were not charged.
