Frigid Air Could Bring Record-Cold Weather To Rhode Island

RHODE ISLAND — Crank up the heat: some of the coldest temperatures of the season are headed to Rhode Island this week. Starting Tuesday, arctic temperatures and breezy winds are expected to move in.

Monday may feel unpleasant, but those temperatures will feel summerlike compared to Tuesday's high of 15 degrees. Wind chills will bring feel-like temperatures below zero, down as low as five below zero in Coventry.

"An arctic blast will bring frigid temperatures and breezy winds to the region on Tuesday," the National Weather Service said.

Overnight temperatures will fall to dangerous lows, reaching the single digits before factoring in the wind chill on Tuesday night.

Temperatures will mellow out by mid-week, but snow is possible Thursday night and another system is looming this weekend.
