Man Arrested On Child Abuse Charge

The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Man Arrested on Child Abuse Charge

Terry Hilson, 25, of 90 Girard Ave. Apt. 47, was arrested on Sunday around 5:50 p.m. on a felony child abuse charge. He allegedly struck a one-year-old girl in the face because she was crying before a nap.

Police were called to Festival Field Apartments for a complaint that Hilson hit the child a few hours earlier. The child's mother said she she heard a loud "pop," then went into the room and saw the child was crying and bleeding from the nose and mouth area. Police said Hilson admitted to striking the child in the face.

Woman Arrested After Claimed Was “Chased by a Vulgarious Woman”

Holly Siegel, 27, of 17 Countryside drive, Essex. VT, was arrested on Sunday around 8:25 p.m. on a warrant and for resisting arrest. Police were flagged down because a witness claimed Siegel was intoxicated and trying to get into the vehicle, but had walked away. Police said as they spoke to the witness, she Siegel walked back to her car.  She allegedly told police she was upset because she was “chased by a vulgarious woman,” but could not provide additional details. 

A search turned up the warrant and she was placed in handcuffs. Police said she fought and kicked at officers as they placed her in the cruiser. She told police she had money in the glovebox that she wanted to guard.  Police said they only found a large amount of “Foxy Lady Dollars.” During booking Siegel allegedly began screaming uncontrollably and tried to kick officers.

Leon Sampson, 23, of 15 Meeting Street was cited on Sunday around 3:45 p.m. for an open container. Police said he was seen drinking a beer on Edward Street.
