Man Runs From Police, 40 Grams of Crack Cocaine Found in Car

The following arrest was reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction

A man and a woman were arrested Thursday after police allegedly found crack cocaine and marijuana in their car after a traffic stop.

Charles Walmsley, 39, of 25 Sunset Blvd., was charged with felony drug possession and Christine Petraca, 48, of 31 Deblois St. Apt. #C, was charged with felony drug possession and possession of marijuana.

When police pulled over Petraca's car near Bellevue Avenue and Church Street, Walmsley allegedly got out of the passenger seat and ran. The officer chased and captured Walmsley.

Police later went to Petraca's house and asked how she knew Walmsley. She allegedly told police he sells her crack and she gives him rides. Police searched the car and found almost 40 grams of crack cocaine and a half an ounce of marijuana. The drugs were individually wrapped for distribution, said police.
