Meet The Candidate: Angela McCalla To Run For Newport Council
The Ward 1 councilor represents the north end. The current incumbent, Susan Taylor, is running for an at-large seat.

NEWPORT, RI - Angela McCalla announced today that she is running for Newport City Council, representing Ward 1. The Ward 1 seat is currently held by City Councilor Susan Taylor.
Angela lives in Newport with her wife, Allyson, and son, Ezra. In her position as Recruiter/Trainer for Child & Family, she works to find and support foster families throughout Rhode Island.

“As a wife, mother, and professional, I know that the success of our community depends on access to quality public education and job opportunities,” said McCalla. “The highlight of my career has been working to empower children and families and help them identify solutions to the challenges they’re facing.”
McCalla has 15 years of experience working with local nonprofits, including East Bay Community Action Program and Newport County Mental Health. She is currently a Board Member for Lucy’s Hearth, Sankofa Community Connection, the North End Neighborhood Association, and serves on the Parent Advisory Council with the Newport Public Schools.

McCalla remarked: “I’ve dedicated my life to helping others and conducting public service through nonprofits. Serving on the Newport City Council will allow me to continue that service and focus on important issues facing the families in our city. I look forward to the campaign and the opportunity to talk about my ideas to move our city forward.”
