Newport Massage Therapist Facing Sex Assault Charges Surrenders License

The former massage therapist's license was suspended a year and a half ago.

NEWPORT, RI — A Newport massage therapist facing sexual assault charges surrendered his license, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.

Patrick McGirr, 62, was working at Bellevue Massage and Bodyworks in Newport in May 2024 when he was "charged with second degree sexual assault related to an alleged incident which occurred while (he) was practicing massage therapy on April 18, 2024," according to a RIDOH consent order.

McGirr "performed a full body massage on " a customer and was "alleged to have inappropriately touched a massage therapy client," the order said.

McGirr's massage therapist license was summarily suspended in May 2024. He gave up his license Wednesday.

McGirr's criminal cases remain pending.
