Newport OUT Invites Public to Celebrate Same-Sex Marriage

Newport OUT invites the public to a welcoming ceremony and cocktail hour to celebrate the first day that gay marriage goes into effect

Nearly 16 and a half years to the day since the first bill was introduced to allow same-sex marriage in Rhode Island, city halls around the state will begin issuing licenses to same-sex couples on Thursday.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, Newport OUT is teaming up with Channing Memorial Church at 135 Pelham St. for a welcoming ceremony on Thursday, August  1 at 6:30 p.m. Channing, a Unitarian Universalist church, openly supported the marriage equality movement earlier this year.

“This date really marks a celebration of equality for all people,” says Lionel Pires, owner of NewportOUT.com.
