Newport Pell Bridge: Necklace Lights Out

NEWPORT, RI — The necklace lights on the Newport Pell Bridge are off, due to an electrical problem. But the deck still has sufficient lighting for drivers to cross the bridge safely, the state Turnpike and Bridge Authority said Friday. The problem only affects the lights that follow the cable strung from the bridge towers, RITBA said.

According to RITBA, the fix could take several days, but work has started to identify the problem. Meanwhile, the flashing red safety lights atop the towers are not impacted.
