Newport Police Log: Teen Charged For Breaking into Cars

A 17-year-old Portsmouth boy was arrested around 1:29 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, for a larceny from a motor vehicle under $1,500 charge.

Newport police had received several reports of someone entering their cars overnight. Residents from Willow Street and Second Street reported footprints in the snow surrounding their cars.

One man said an iPod and an iTouch were missing from his glove box. A realtor reported that a bag of keys were also gone from her car.

A woman living on Willow Street contacted police after she found an iPhone in her driveway. When police seized it, there was a text from “Mom” asking why the boy had not come home the night before.

They called the number, and the woman identified herself as the 17-year-old’s mother and that police were calling from his phone. She said she last knew him to be at a dance in Portsmouth.

The boy’s mother brought him to the police station when he returned home.

Other arrests

• Todd K. Moore, 21, of 62 General St., Providence, was arrested around 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3 for two active warrants for failure to appear in court. He was originally arrested on an embezzlement charge.
• Nikki A. Hall, 38, of an unknown address, was arrested around 1:50 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, for a simple assault charge and an active warrant. She reportedly tried to kick officers as she was being placed under arrest for a warrant for failure to appear in court.
• Paula A. Prather, 41, of Brockton, MA, was arrested around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, for a domestic assault charge.
• Johnathan Merriott, 21, of Newport, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, for simple assault and domestic assault charges.
