Parts Of Newport Cliff Walk Closed After 'Significant Landslide'
Parts of the iconic pathway collapsed between the 40 Steps and Webster Avenue.

NEWPORT, RI — A "significant landslide" partially collapsed part of Newport's iconic Cliff Walk, the city said Thursday. The damaged area of the path will be closed until further notice.
The collapse happened near the 40 Steps, closing the walk from Narragansett Avenue to Webster Avenue. Photos from the city showed where the path completely fell away after the ground underneath it slid down the steep embankment.
Public service crews are assessing the damage, the city said, though a long-term closure is expected.
