Pedestrian Walks into Traffic, Hits Truck
A man walked into traffic on America's Cup Avenue Friday night

A 48-year-old man was injured Thursday night after witnesses said he walked backwards onto America's Cup Avenue near the Mooring Restaurant and hit a tractor/trailer.
The victim, identified as Kenneth Allen of Fall River, MA, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital due to a cut on his head, but his injuries were not considered life threatening, said police.
After the incident was reported on Newport Patch Facebook last night, many residents commented that both drivers and pedestrians need to be more vigilant:

Tami L Faria Granted there are crosswalks everywhere BUT that doesn't give anyone the right to just walk across the street without looking first. Yes lots of ignorant people never stop to let you cross when in a cross walk but what's better getting hit and suffering or looking both ways and waiting for the cars to actually stop and making it across the street safely? I think that's a no brainer!!!!!
Ilse Platt I was driving home from work the other night, in the rain, at one o'clock in the morning and two guys were walking right in the middle of America's cup, I didn't even see them. I could of easily hit them.
