Police Investigate Knife Assault

Newport police are investigating a knife assault that occurred on Wednesday around 8:45 in the morning. The victim's injuries were not considered serious, according to police. No arrests have been made but police continue to investigate the crime.

The suspect ran to a Van Zandt apartment complex after he allegedly knifed a man in the arm. Police blocked off the area and conducted a search, but were unable to find the suspect. Police said the victim remains uncooperative and does not wish to identify his assailant. The incident probably occurred on Hall Avenue, said police.

The assault is not believed to be connected to a knife fight in July, according to police.
