Man Tazed After Assault on Officer

The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Robin Peter Squires, 26, of 13 Millfield Crescent, Lincolnshire, UK, was tazed by police and arrested Sunday after he allegedly assaulted an officer. He was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct.

Around 1:10 a.m., Squires allegedly stumbled towards a police cruiser and said “show me your ID.”  He allegedly pounded on the hood of the cruiser and yelled, “You're a cop! You're a cop!”

As the officer tried to get out of the cruiser, Squires allegedly slammed the door several times on his leg. The officer stepped out of the car and Squires allegedly faced him in a fighting stance with clenched fists. The officer tazed him twice, once in the backside and once in his lower back. During processing, Squires was apologetic, said police.
