Rental Scooter Crash Severely Injures Woman and Boy
A boy suffered severe injuries and his mother was seriously hurt after a crash while they rode a rental three-wheel scooter.

NEWPORT, RI—A crash that severely injured a 10-year-old boy riding with his mother on a rental scooter in Newport on Sunday is under investigation.
The crash happened at around 3:50 p.m. on Ocean Avenue near Hazard Road and the boy's mother was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries, according to city officials.
The boy was on the back of a scooter being driven by his mother when the collision with a vehicle occurred. The boy's father and another boy were on a separate three-wheel scooter and were not involved in the crash. The family is from out of town.

Officials said the boy suffered major traumatic injuries and was transported to Newport Hospital and later transferred to Hasbro Children's Hospital. The mother was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital after initially being brought to Newport Hospital with serious injuries.
The Newport Police Department is handling the investigation.
