Six Hundred Lose Power In Newport Saturday

Across the state thousands of people were knocked off the grid when strong storms came through.

NEWPORT, RI—Across Rhode Island more than 8,000 electric customers were in the dark Saturday, as of 7:30 p.m., National Grid said. All of them were expected to have service restored by 9:30 p.m. In Newport, 663 households were affected. But as of 7:45 p.m., all but 11 households were back on the grid.
