NEWPORT, RI — As they often say in New England: if you don't like the weather, just wait. While Rhode Island is seeing springlike temperatures Monday, the first measurable snowfall of the season is possible later this week.

Monday's warm temperatures will be accompanied by blustery winds across the state, with wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph in the East Bay and on Block Island. Temperatures are expected to peak around 61 degrees, with a chance of showers in the morning and evening hours.

Temperatures are expected to plummet by around 20 degrees by Wednesday, with the first measurable snowfall of the season possible. Snowfall amounts are hard to say at this point, though early predictions from the National Weather Service are around an inch.

"Temperatures will play a large role in how this upcoming storm unfolds across the Northeast," AccuWeather wrote. "By Tuesday night, low temperatures will allow winter a chance to make a brief appearance across the Northeast. A few scenarios are still possible from Tuesday night into Wednesday as the storm's exact track continues to be ironed out."
