RHODE ISLAND — The sun may be shining brightly, but it's far from a beach day in the Ocean State. Rhode Islanders woke up to a cold, dry Friday morning, with early morning wind chills in the negative numbers.

As of about 5 a.m., the warmest "feel like" temperature in the state was in the single digits, as low as negative three degrees in some areas, according to the National Weather Service. While temperatures will rise slightly, the high temperature for the day is only expected to top out at 24 degrees.

The weekend will look very similar to Friday, with sunny skies and frigid temperatures during the day Saturday and Sunday and lows in the teens overnight. That trend will continue into Monday, before temperatures are expected to rise above freezing ahead of rain on Tuesday.
