Newport Police confirmed that an unknown substance delivered to the Chanler Hotel was identified as cocaine. A witness said there was a "very small amount" of the substance. It is unknown who sent the package.
The hotel reported the suspicious package around 11 a.m. Friday morning to the Newport Police Department. Rhode Island's HAZMAT team arrived at 12:45 p.m. from East Providence. The building is closed and the area has been blocked off.
