Boat Washes Ashore in Newport with Unresponsive Person Aboard, Search Launched
The U.S. Coast Guard and members of the Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force are searching the water off Bailey's Beach.
NEWPORT, RI—Members of the U.S. Coast Guard and the Narragansett Bay Marine Task Force are searching the waters off Bailey's Beach for a possible missing person after a boat washed ashore with an unresponsive person aboard.
The Coast Guard confirmed that they were searching the area as a precaution.
The unresponsive person was transported to the hospital. Coast Guard officials said the victim was a 17-year-old who was recovered from the boat by good Samaritans at around 3:30 p.m.

Crews are actively searching the water off Ocean Avenue by the beach.
Authorities said that a vessel came ashore and believe it was towing another vessel. A fisherman told responders that he saw a second boat floating and unoccupied some distance from Bailey's Beach.

The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter and NBMTF crews used rescue boats and a jet ski to search a large swath of the Newport shore. Crews from Middletown, Jamestown, Newport, North Kingstown and the state Department of Environmental Management are active on the water.
Authorities are expected to release more details later Wednesday.
