NEWPORT, RI — Marsha and Alex Hughes were married in Newport on July 12.

The couple met and live in Hong Kong. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, they chose to have a micro-wedding in Newport, where Marsha's parents live.

The groom's family, who are British, were unfortunately unable to attend in-person due to travel restrictions in place, regardless of vaccination status. Instead, they and more than 150 guests from around the world were able to take part in the celebration over Zoom, even making toasts alongside those made in person.

With the travel issues surrounding the groom's family, the couple considered delaying their wedding until Christmastime, but chose to go ahead with the July date over concerns about how mutations of COVID-19 will impact travel at that time.
