Woman Injures Husband, Crashes Into Emergency Vehicles

A Kentucky woman is currently in the Newport Hospital after she allegedly crashed into a Newport police cruiser and a fire department vehicle on Thursday morning around 1:30 a.m. Her injuries are not considered life threatening.  

Police said Amy Dunn, of 627 Makyla Court, Burlington, KY, will be charged with driving under the influence among other charges.

Police responded to Harrison Avenue for a report that a driver was on the side of the road, foaming from the mouth. Her husband allegedly ran up to the car and yelled for Dunn to get out of the car. He reportedly grabbed onto the car as she accelerated into the road.  

Police said she was swerving across both lanes of the road and was quickly approaching an emergency vehicle that responded to the 911 call. Officers yelled for him to let go, since she was about to crash into the other vehicle. He let go and crashed into the street face first, said police. Police said he was confused and was bleeding from the head. He was transported to the hospital.

She crashed into the fire department's vehicle, then crashed into a police cruiser, causing considerable damage, said police. She reportedly tried to accelerate again, but her car was lodged into the cruiser.  An officer pulled his gun and told her to get out of the car, but she remained inside, said police.  

A fire fighter broke the passenger side window and a police officer reached in, put the car in park and pulled Dunn out the car. Police said she kicked and swung at officers as they placed her in handcuffs. She was strapped to a gurney and was placed in an ambulance.  

Her husband said they had been drinking earlier that night.
