Your Guide: 'Wet Paint' Art Auction

Bring your work to the auction — or bring your cash and purchase a new work of art.

Local artists and their works will be on display this weekend, as Newport Art Museum is holding a Wet Paint Art Auction, including silent and live auctions, at Griswold House.

Artist registration starts on Saturday morning from 8 to 10 a.m. Drop-off is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Online preregistration for artists also available.

Potential buyers won't have to wait long to peruse the selection — there's a preview reception set for 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday night — but to buy a new piece, you'll need to check out the silent auction from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, followed by a live auction of the top 50 works on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Tickets for the preview, only available at the door, are $15/$10 for members. Artists get in free and may bring a guest.

It's sure to be an exciting bidding contest for the top 50 art pieces on Sunday, with auctioneer Marie Keep of Skinner, Inc. conducting the session.

The Museum is open free of charge on Sunday, too, so visitors can check out the selection, including exhibitions by McDonald Wright, Marion Carry, and the Networks 2011/12 collection.

The event is sponsored by U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, and Skinner, Inc.
