Father's Day Thoughts From NK
From a great Clams Casino (watch the video) to a father and daughter bound by love and illness, people share stories about Dad.
What's special about your dad? Here are three responses. We welome yours – leave it in the comments section below. And ... thanks, Dad!
From Jennifer Matteson:
“After my parents’ very hostile divorce at the age of two, he took me on as a full-time single father. He remarried when I was nine, but by then we found out that we shared a bond between us that no one could understand. I wasn't even close to an easy child, teenager and young adult. … As a teen I grew rebellious and outwardly hostile, I very rarely thought about my actions towards him, which now horrify me and I have tried to make up for in the last decade or so. The biggest tie for us is we both suffer from multiple sclerosis. He was diagnosed when I was fifteen … he told the doctors at the time that he did not ‘have time’ to have MS, he had bills to pay and a daughter to raise. That is my dad, a middle aged man with a heart of gold, who would do anything for you.... I am 29 and was diagnosed with MS at age 26 in 2010.... I account my good health and attitude to my father, who never lets anything get him down. I could not ask for a better parent.”
From Marie Cullen:
“My husband and I had our daughter ‘late’ – I was almost 40 and he was 42 when she was born. I have never seen a father and daughter as sweet as these two. My husband is a carpenter by trade and he has taught Jenna, now 3, how to use many of his tools (the safe ones, of course). Every month or so he does a special building project with her. They've built a wooden train, a bus, a tank, a truck, and a muscle car. She helped him spackle the walls in our kitchen and he taught her all about the 'joint compound knife' they were using to do it. He is a very special father. He is the hardest working man I've ever known but he always makes time for his little girl and is teaching her to be strong, self-sufficient and kind like he is.”

From Debbie Coop:
“For me, he’s the guy who I always knew whatever happened to me, he would experience it with me, like nobody else could. At your lowest, there’s nobody who’s going to feel the same about that. He’ll always match your emotion. When something good happens … there’s nobody else who’d get it like he would.”
