Winter Fishing In Rhode Island: 11 Ponds, Getting Stocked With Trout, Salmon

See where you can catch Sebago salmon and brook and rainbow trout in Rhode Island this winter.

RHODE ISLAND — Does the cold not stop you from getting outside? If you're looking for something to do outdoors this fall, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management will have you covered, when they stock waterways across the state with fish to catch.

For those looking to go fishing, DEM officials will stock 11 Rhode Island ponds with Sebago salmon and brook and rainbow trout. Trout and salmon stocking begins Wednesday and will continue through Friday.

The following waterways will be stocked with fish:

  • Melville Ponds, Portsmouth
  • Simmons Mill Pond, Little Compton
  • Stafford Pond, Tiverton
  • Willett Pond, East Providence
  • Barbers Pond, South Kingstown
  • Wyoming Pond, Hopkinton
  • Silver Spring Lake, North Kingstown
  • Meadowbrook Pond, Richmond
  • Watchaug Pond, Charlestown
  • Round Top Ponds, Burrillville
  • Peck Pond, Burrillville.

Cyanobacteria alerts may prevent stocking in some ponds and lakes.

An updated fishing license is required for all anglers 15 and older. DEM officials also said a trout conservation stamp is required for anyone wishing to keep a trout or to fish in a catch-and-release or "fly-fishing only" area.
